In elementary music classes we strive to provide the foundation for deeper musical learning as well as to foster creativity and music appreciation. We believe that every student should grow to be tuneful, beatful, and artful.

K-6 Music Curriculum
Students at Heatly have music once a week for 45 minutes in grades PreK-6.
In grades PreK & K, music class focus on being tuneful, artful, beatful. We follow Dr. John Feierabend's "First Stesp in Music", a research-based music education curriculum that includes movement and music creating.
Grades 1-5 music classes begin to develop music literacy through Dr. John Feierabend's "Conversational Solfege". By the end of 5th grade all students are able to read, write, and perform music independently as well as in ensembles.
Students in grades 3,4 and 5 participate in "Recorder Karate", their first instrumental experience. They also can choose to belong to Elementary Chorus. This group meets afterschool twice a week for 45 minutes. This group often competes at NYSSMA Choral Majors and performs throughout the community.
